Somewhere to be all day.

From the rail of a Victorian pier you pick a bait, cast, and watch a red-and-white float on green water. When it goes under you have a moment to strike. Then it is you and a tension bar, holding to reel and letting go the second the fish runs. Free with gentle ads, or £2.99 once to remove them.

What if nothing is happening, and that is the good bit?

Every other game we make is set somewhere you are busy. This one started with the opposite question. Sea fishing off a pier is almost entirely waiting, and the trick was finding the two seconds in it that are a game.

  1. The float is the whole interface

Tap to cast, then wait. The float sits out there bobbing, and most of a session is watching it. That is the point.

  2. A tension bar you have to read

Hold to reel, and let go the moment the fish runs. Keep winding through a run and the braid parts. That is a fish gone, and three gone means you pack up.

  3. Eight species, measured

Mackerel, pollack, whiting, plaice, bass, conger, John Dory, and a Moon Fish that only shows on an October night. One in twenty-five comes up silver.

  4. Tackle with an angler’s logic

A better rod, braided line, a long cast, a landing net, a keep net, and a flask of tea. Then move along the coast to the Old Jetty, the Harbour Wall and The Point.

Questions people ask

What kind of game is Pier & Perch?
A cosy sea-fishing game for iPhone and iPad. You cast off a Victorian pier, watch the float, strike when it dips, then hold to reel while the line tension stays out of the red. A session lasts about a minute.
Is the tide real?
Yes. It runs on your device clock on a twelve-and-a-half-hour cycle, and it changes what bites and how often. A morning session genuinely differs from an evening one, and bass come on at dusk.
Is Pier & Perch free?
Yes. It is free with ads between sessions, never during one. A single £2.99 purchase removes every ad forever and is shared with your family.
When is it out?
Pier & Perch is finished and heading to the App Store. Email [email protected] if you want to hear when it lands.
