Lift it while it’s golden.
Customers come to the counter with their order written on newspaper, and every basket in the fryer runs on its own clock: pale, golden, brown, burnt. Lift it while it is golden and it is perfect. Lift it dead centre and it is Crispy, with a crunch and a bonus tip. Free with gentle ads, or £2.99 once to remove them.

A clock you cannot pause, in a place nobody hurries.
Most of our games wait for you. This one does not, because a fryer does not. The tension is entirely in the oil, which leaves the counter free to be a seaside chip shop full of people who come in every week for the same thing.

The fryer does not wait
Every basket cooks on its own clock while you serve the queue. Lift in the middle third of the golden window for a crunch, a sparkle and a bonus tip.

Play by ear
Every basket has its own sizzle, and it rises in pitch as it browns. You can work a busy counter on sound alone once your ear is in.

A Wall of Regulars
Twenty-four locals with the same order every time. The Harbourmaster brings a gold ticket and pays triple.

Upgrade the shop
Then move along the coast to a new seaside town. Twist days bring the Friday Night Rush, Seagull Season, Hot Oil and the Harbour Festival.
How it is built
Native on both platforms, small, and honest about money: one purchase, no subscriptions, no ads while you are frying.
Back to all work- Built twice, natively: Swift and SwiftUI on iPhone, Kotlin and Jetpack Compose on Android
- A small scene graph of our own on Android, shared across every game, rather than a game engine
- Every basket has its own looping sizzle, pitched up as it browns
- A parity test that compiles the Swift rules and checks the Kotlin ones match, day by day
- Shares its shift, results and shop flow with Crumb & Kettle
- StoreKit 2 and Play Billing for the single one-off purchase
- Plays offline, saves on the device, keeps your podcast running
- All art and sound generated by the same tools as our other games
Questions people ask
- What kind of game is Batter & Brine?
- A cosy time-management game for iPhone, iPad and Android set in a seaside chip shop. You fry cod, chips, sausages, fishcakes and scampi, lift each basket while it is golden, and serve the queue before they give up. A shift lasts about a minute.
- What does Crispy mean?
- The golden window has a middle third. Lift a basket right in the centre of it and the portion comes out Crispy, which pays a bonus tip and makes a very satisfying noise.
- Is Batter & Brine free?
- Yes. It is free with ads between shifts, never during one. A single £2.99 purchase removes every ad forever and is shared with your family.
- When is it out?
- Batter & Brine is finished and heading to the App Store and Google Play. Email [email protected] if you want to hear when it lands.
