Wool & Whistle

Live on the App Store, Android to follow

One very good dog, and a hillside full of opinions.

Sheep move away from a dog. That single rule is the whole puzzle, and everything else follows from where you put her.

Wool & Whistle on an iPhone

What kind of game is Wool & Whistle?

A cosy herding puzzle for iPhone, iPad and Android. Tap and the collie runs there. Sheep move away from her, so you get behind the flock and walk it up the field and into the pen. A round lasts about a minute.

This one is for you if

  • You like a puzzle you solve by position rather than speed
  • You have watched a sheepdog work and fancied a go
  • You want something calm with real thinking in it
  • Get behind them and walk up

Position Bess well and a dozen sheep walk up the hill together. Push too hard and one breaks for the open moor and is gone.

  • Walls and gates

From day three dry-stone walls cross the field with gates in them. Tap one open and route the flock through. Open the wrong one and you will be chasing them back down.

  • Seven breeds in the Flock Book

Swaledale and Herdwick from day one, then Suffolk, Jacob, Blackface, Cheviot and the broad, pink-nosed Texel. Every sheep penned is counted.

1

Before you tap

Is Wool & Whistle free?
Yes. It is free with ads between rounds, never during one. A single £2.99 purchase removes every ad forever and is shared with your family.
What happens in winter?
Snow comes down in December and the sheep are white on white, so you listen for Bess’s bell to find them. Spring brings lambs that trot in after their ewes, and summer is shearing money.
Where can I get it?
Wool & Whistle is out now on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, free to download. The Android build is finished and following shortly on Google Play.
